The Voices of Peers makes a Powerful Impact
Why Teens Transportation Monitoring System
The Teen Transportation Monitoring System is a peer-to-peer operation led by teens promoting safe driving practices. The voices of peers make a lasting impact.
Part of our operational strategy includes recruiting and putting qualified teens on the telephone, which also gives area teens a chance to gain real-world work experience.
Ties into DriveSafeSigns Mission
It is a natural extension of DriveSafeSign’s mission to improve attentiveness on our roads. By reporting distracting driving – especially amongst teen drivers – this information can be used to correct these behaviors and improve area driving conditions.
Cost Savings of TTMS
The average car accident costs a driver about $1,051 each year, according to a report by Triple A (AAA). The cost is dramatically higher for more severe accidents caused by distracted driving which may include medical costs, legal, work leave, car replacement or rentals.
The Teen Transportation Monitoring System costs only $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year.
Additional facts:
1. If a teen is driving on the highway at the designated speed limit of 60 mph, they can go 135 yards (more than a full football field) before they look up again from their phone.
2. For every 6 seconds of drive time, a driver sending or receiving a text message spends 6 seconds with their eyes off the road.
3. Helps build good relationships between subscribers and agents, where teen drivers would feel comfortable calling the TTM line with questions or comments.
Frequently Asked Questions(FAQ)
1. Who is Drive Safe?
In October, 2004, Chestina Perry founded Drive Safe along with her three nieces – Tiffanie, Twana, and Victoria. After feeling heavy pressure by other drivers (horns, yelling, etc.), Chestina developed a way to notify other motorists that she was a new driver by putting a magnetic sticker on her car. Not only did other drivers become more respectful, but many pulled over to ask where they could purchase a similar one for their children – inspiring the girls to start Drive Safe.
The organization’s mission is to improve attentiveness on our highways by offering safety products to make motorists aware of the special circumstances of drivers such as teen driver, driver in training, new driver, and senior citizen driver.
The overwhelming public response to our safety product inspired us to bring it to market.
2. Is Drive Safe a Non-profit organization?
The "Smart Teens Drive Safe Foundation" is a Columbia, SC based 501 (c) (3) EIN 60-1518796 Nonprofit public organization, certified by the state of South Carolina, and owned and operated by "teens for teens." Our foundation is committed to saving lives, and improving road and highway safety for all motorists, especially beginning teenage drivers, and preteen drivers.
We have found that the sobering and disturbing facts of youth fatalities and injuries stir the emotions of teens, but that is not enough. They need voices from their peers whom they identify with the most.
3. How will I be notified if my teen has been reported?
A professionally trained TSC Intake Agent will process an incident report and immediately E-mail the pertinent information conveyed by the caller such as the incident time, vehicle tag number, location of sighting, and general description of driver to the point of contact listed in the system. All reports are confidential and will not be shared unless authorized by the point of contact. Through the Transportation Monitoring System, TSC is able to provide parents with clear, concise, and accurate information about their teen drivers in order to help keep them safe before any accidents occur
4. Will my credit card be charged monthly for this service?
Yes, the credit card given by the point of contact will be charge a monitoring fee of $9.99 every month unless special circumstances are specified.
5. Will I get a discount on my insurance if I purchase this service?
This is a benefit that the organization is currently working on to help parents reduce their insurance of their teens if they purchase this monthly monitoring system, however, it is not available at the present time.
